Signal Mountain hasn't had much luck against Whitwell recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Signal Mountain turned things around against Bradley Central on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 26, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Berkley Roddy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Peyton Spady also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Whitwell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Sequatchie County with a sharp 7-1 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jasie Willis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Grace Harvey was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kasie Britton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Whitwell pushed their record up to 6-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Signal Mountain, their record is now 5-15.
Signal Mountain suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Whitwell in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
