Basketball Recap: Six Straight Road Wins for Baker County

Baker County waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 52-36 victory over the Middleburg Broncos. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Broncos are ranked 440th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Baker County was led to victory by Natalia Strachan and Yamise Haygood. Strachan almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals, while Haygood almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. The contest was Haygood's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Makai'Lah Williams was another key player, putting up seven points along with five boards and four steals.

Baker County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in four consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Middleburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aiyana Haynes went 7 of 12 on her way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana White, who posted six points.

Baker County pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for Middleburg, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Baker County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-22 victory against Branford on the 13th. As for Middleburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-39 win against Keystone Heights on the 13th.
