Preview: Oberlin The Phoenix vs. Christian Community Warriors
The Oberlin The Phoenix on the road again on Monday and play against the Christian Community Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on January 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Oberlin is ranked 742nd, while Christian Community is ranked 717th).
Oberlin suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 59-14 defeat at the hands of Keystone. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Oberlin has suffered against Keystone since January 23, 2021.
Meanwhile, Christian Community came up short against Garrett Morgan on Monday and fell 44-35.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anna Blumfeldt, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Lyla Miller was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Oberlin's loss was their 12th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.3 points per game. As for Christian Community, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Oberlin couldn't quite finish off Christian Community in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 and fell 34-31. Can Oberlin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
