Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Cardinals vs. D'Evelyn Jaguars
Elizabeth was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 78-15 loss at the hands of the D'Evelyn Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th in Colorado, while the Jaguars are ranked 66th in Colorado).
Larissa Wesbrook was Elizabeth's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Halli Connelley held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. London Machado took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
D'Evelyn found their leader in sophomore Colleen Monahan, who went 8-for-12 en route to 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Monahan is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie McMann, who posted five points in addition to 14 assists and five steals.
Elizabeth's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for D'Evelyn, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-3.
Coming up, Elizabeth will face off against Peak to Peak at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. D'Evelyn does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
