Football Preview: Orange Cove Titans vs. Mendota Aztecs
After starting their season with two straight games on the road, Orange Cove is finally coming home. They will be defending their home-fieldthey go up against the Mendota Aztecs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Mendota took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Orange Cove, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Orange Cove made easy work of Parlier and carried off a 38-16 win.
Isaac Angulo was a one-man wrecking crew for Orange Cove as he rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Angulo really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Oscar Alvarez, who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes.
Orange Cove wouldn't let Parlier keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Orange Cove can thank Alvarez and Anthony Avila for forcing both of them. That's the most total yards Avila has posted since back in October of 2023.
Meanwhile, Mendota had to suffer through a 48-21 loss at the hands of McLane. The Aztecs have struggled against the Highlanders recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Although Mendota took the loss, they still got scores from Hawk Garcia, Erlin Gomez, and David Gonzalez.
The victory got Orange Cove back to even at 1-1. As for Mendota, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Orange Cove was dealt a bruising 35-7 loss at the hands of Mendota in their previous matchup back in September of 2021. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Orange Cove was down 28-0.
