The Northwest Cabarrus Trojans will square off against the Carson Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Northwest Cabarrus nor Lake Norman Charter made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Trojans came out on top against the Knights by a score of 6-2. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Haylee Ellis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Tatum Krolak was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kortlyn Ballard, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Carson posted their closest victory since April 4, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Lake Norman Charter 5-4.
Carson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Caylee Snow gave up four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Benner, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emma Woodlief was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Carson has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Northwest Cabarrus, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Everything went Northwest Cabarrus' way against Carson in their previous matchup back in March, as Northwest Cabarrus made off with a 20-4 victory. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
