Recap: Edna Karr Cougars vs. Phoenix Spartans
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Albany, the Edna Karr Cougars were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 56-40 victory over Phoenix. That's another feather in the cap for Edna Karr, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Edna Karr got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Samiya Clayton out in front who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Clayton scored 15 or more points. Makayla Hartford was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Phoenix lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aniyah Graham, who scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Da'cora Burton, who scored ten points.
Edna Karr's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Phoenix, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
Edna Karr will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Salmen at 10:30 a.m. on December 30th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Destiny Bennett and Cass Antoine. Phoenix and South Plaquemines will round out the year against one another at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at.
