League recap: UMS-Wright Prep extends winning streak with victory over Andalusia

UMS-Wright Prep extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating Andalusia, 21-12. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Bulldogs.

Escambia County and Hillcrest played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Escambia County eventually emerging with a 28-26 victory.

UMS-Wright Prep's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gunner Roach threw for 95 and one touchdown and Tyrone Dixon had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Troy Dixon chipped in 113 yards. Bobby Guthans helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching one ball for 19 yards.

UMS-Wright Prep's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roach has thrown for 809 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Dixon has 37 catches for 426 yards. Dixon leads the league in rushing with 1216 yards.

A big matchup in 4A Region 1 this week will be when Clarke County takes on Thomasville. The Bulldogs are currently in third, while the Tigers are in second.

Thomasville took down Monroe County 62-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
