Softball Recap: Auburn Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Auburn had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Grayson County on Wednesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Blue Devils. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by seven runs or more this season.

Skyler Hodges looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hope Wilson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Johnnie Gaynor, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Auburn pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Grayson County, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8.

Auburn didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Narrows on the 29th. As for Grayson County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 18-0 victory against Craig County on the 28th.
