Basketball Recap: Buckeye Comes Up Short

Buckeye lost against Normandy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Buckeye Bucks opened the new year with a less-than-successful 43-32 loss to the Normandy Invaders.

When it comes to explaining why Buckeye lost, don't look at Ruby Hudak. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Hudak has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Even though they lost, Buckeye smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Normandy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ziley Minich, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keilei Anderson, who posted five points along with six boards and four steals.

Buckeye's record now sits at 4-7. As for Normandy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

Buckeye will be playing in front of their home fans against Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Normandy, they will venture away from home to take on Garfield at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
