Softball Game Preview: Altavista Colonels vs. Nelson County Governors

The Altavista Colonels will head out to challenge the Nelson County Governors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Altavista will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Gretna on Tuesday. The Colonels were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Hawks. Considering the Colonels' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Nelson County, as they earned their first away victory of the season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Gretna a 4-0 shutout on Wednesday.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Nelson County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Altavista skirted past Nelson County 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
