Softball Game Preview: Saint Viator Lions vs. St. Francis Spartans

The Saint Viator Lions will challenge the St. Francis Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Saint Viator has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while St. Francis will come in with four straight wins.

Saint Viator fell victim to Crystal Lake Central and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

St. Francis not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 15-0). Everything went their way against Somonauk as they made off with an 11-1 victory. Considering the Spartans have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Francis' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Saint Viator, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-18.

Saint Viator might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from St. Francis when the teams last played back in April of 2016. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
