Bishop Shanahan has gone a perfect 6-0 against Great Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will host the Patriots at 3:45 p.m. Bishop Shanahan will be strutting in after a victory while Great Valley will be coming in after a defeat.
Bishop Shanahan took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Oxford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets on Thursday, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 15, 2024.
Hailey Shapiro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Bush, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Mikayla Palantino was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Great Valley came up short against Bayard Rustin on Thursday and fell 5-2. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Great Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sarah Yost gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Yost has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lily Mattison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Bishop Shanahan and bumps their season record up to 7-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Great Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Great Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Bishop Shanahan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Great Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Bishop Shanahan keep running through batters, or will the Patriots buck the trend?
Everything went Bishop Shanahan's way against Great Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Bishop Shanahan made off with a 9-3 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
