Baseball Game Preview: Canajoharie Cougars vs. Granville Golden Horde

The Canajoharie Cougars will challenge the Granville Golden Horde at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Canajoharie comes in on three and Granville on 12.

Canajoharie is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Oppenheim-Ephratah as they made off with an 8-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Canajoharie got a massive performance out of Cody Hyney, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hyney has posted since back in April. Nicholas Barlow was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Canajoharie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Granville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Duanesburg 5-4.

Granville pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Canajoharie, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
