Soccer Game Preview: Belleville East vs. O'Fallon

Belleville East hasn't had much luck against O'Fallon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lancers will square off against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

O'Fallon will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Belleville East extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Lancers' defense stepped up to hand Marion a 7-0 shutout. Belleville East's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matches.

Meanwhile, O'Fallon is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Nerinx Hall. The Panthers put the hurt on the Markers with a sharp 4-0 win. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for O'Fallon considering their one-goal performance the game before.

They hit Nerinx Hall with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Claire Nieroda, Delaney Nieroda, Sadie Mueller, and Allie Tredway.

Belleville East's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those six contests. As for O'Fallon, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1-1.

Belleville East might still be hurting after the 5-0 defeat they got from O'Fallon when the teams last played back in April. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
