Baseball Game Preview: Keene Blackbirds vs. Goffstown Grizzlies

The Keene Blackbirds will square off against the Goffstown Grizzlies at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On Wednesday, Keene came up short against Salem and fell 6-2. The Blackbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Keene got a good showing from Watson Ferguson, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ferguson also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Blackbirds are 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Keene saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Callahan, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another was Fitch Hennessey, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Goffstown faced Exeter in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Grizzlies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Blue Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Grizzlies have posted since May 23, 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Goffstown and bumps their season record up to 14-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Keene, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.

Keene came out on top in a nail-biter against Goffstown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Blackbirds repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
