Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

Having just played yesterday, the Springstead Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Springstead will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

In what's become a running theme this season, Springstead gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Central 55-4 at home. That looming 55-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Springstead yet this season.

Springstead got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was J'ziyah Munford out in front who scored 16 points along with four steals. Munford hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Samantha Suarez, who scored ten points along with seven assists and six steals.

Weeki Wachee has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 51-35 to The Villages Charter.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Clark, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Springstead is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Weeki Wachee, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season.

Wednesday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Springstead have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Weeki Wachee struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Springstead was able to grind out a solid victory over Weeki Wachee in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, winning 52-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springstead since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
