Basketball Game Preview: St. Ignatius Wildcats vs. Lutheran East Falcons

The St. Ignatius Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Lutheran East Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Ignatius is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Archbishop Moeller, who was ranked 15th at the time (St. Ignatius was ranked first). St. Ignatius blew past Archbishop Moeller 62-41 on Sunday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lutheran East came up short against Huntington Expression Prep on Saturday and fell 72-65.

Despite the defeat, Lutheran East saw an underclassman step up: freshman Dylan Zeigler posted 27 points and six boards. With that strong performance, Zeigler is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Chris Hill was another key player, putting up ten points.

Lutheran East's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for St. Ignatius, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

St. Ignatius strolled past Lutheran East in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 69-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Ignatius since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
