Softball Game Preview: Staunton River Golden Eagles vs. Franklin County Eagles

The Staunton River Golden Eagles will face off against the Franklin County Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Staunton River 2.3, Franklin County 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Staunton River is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lord Botetourt just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 3-1. The game marked the Golden Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Staunton River got a good showing from Emma Alcorn, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Staunton River saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaidyn Roach, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Franklin County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Knights a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Franklin County's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Staunton River, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
