Softball Game Preview: San Clemente Tritons vs. Douglas Tigers

The San Clemente Tritons will be taking part in a tournament against the Douglas Tigers at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. San Clemente's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Douglas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

While San Clemente didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Irvine 10-4 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Tritons, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kennedy Pyne was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Nachman, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Douglas' offense. They came up short against Poly on Thursday, falling 6-0. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

San Clemente has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. Douglas' loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

San Clemente's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. San Clemente has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game.
