Baseball Recap: Howell Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Toms River South, Howell was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Manchester Township Hawks 2-0. The Rebels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hawks, too.

Not much got past Jake Jensen, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Manchester Township off the board. Jensen also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Howell is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Howell's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Waylon Cavanagh, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Howell's win bumped their record up to 12-10-1. As for Manchester Township, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Looking ahead, Howell will challenge Ocean Township at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Manchester Township, they will face off against Neptune at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
