Baseball Game Preview: Coconino Panthers vs. Liberty Lions

The Coconino Panthers will head out to square off against the Liberty Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Coconino beats Liberty with 13 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Coconino was the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Agua Fria on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Fitz Guinan and Ty Sevier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Guinan pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sevier struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Guinan scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Sevier scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Caleb Begay looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Steven Stone was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Corbin Derr, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Coconino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Agua Fria only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Liberty faced off against Canyon View on Thursday. Liberty had just enough and edged out Canyon View 3-2.

Hudson Litz looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Lucas Mitchell was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).

Coconino's record is now 2-0. As for Liberty, their record is now an identical 2-0.
