Football Game Preview: Cedar Springs Red Hawks vs. East Grand Rapids Pioneers + How To Watch

The Cedar Springs Red Hawks will face off against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedar Springs is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

On Friday, Cedar Springs needed a bit of extra time to put away Coopersville. They managed a 27-21 victory over the Broncos. Those 27 points were actually the fewest the Red Hawks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Meanwhile, East Grand Rapids hadn't done well against Forest Hills Central recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pioneers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rangers 34-6. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Rangers are ranked 211th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cedar Springs better keep an eye on Josh McCune. He was instrumental in East Grand Rapids' win, throwing for 270 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushing for 71 yards and one score on only ten carries. Those 270 passing yards gave McCune a new career-high. Asa Cox was in the mix as well, providing East Grand Rapids with two TDs.

Cedar Springs' record now sits at 8-1. As for East Grand Rapids, their record is now 7-2.

Cedar Springs lost to East Grand Rapids on the road by a decisive 14-0 margin in their previous matchup back in August of 2023. Can the Red Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
