Basketball Recap: Colquitt County Takes a Loss

Colquitt County lost against Lowndes back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Colquitt County Packers took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lowndes Vikings.

When it comes to explaining why Colquitt County lost, don't look at Amira Walters- Smith. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 15 on her way to 20 points and seven assists. That was a full 40.8% of Colquitt County's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amareyia Knighton, who put up 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Lowndes' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. Aryana Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Colquitt County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season. As for Lowndes, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Colquitt County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-44 defeat against Camden County on the 1st. As for Lowndes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-55 loss against Tift County on the 1st.
