Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. Cannon Cougars

For the second straight game, Covenant Day will face off against Cannon. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Covenant Day Lions challenge Cannon Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Covenant Day is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.

Covenant Day lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cannon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. Covenant Day's pitchers stepped up to hand Cannon a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. Nine seems to be a good number for the Lions as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Issac Snapp tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Hunter Kincheloe was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Charlie Kelly was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Covenant Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Covenant Day's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cannon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Covenant Day has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts.
