Baseball Recap: Nogales Drops Highest Score of Season Against Duarte

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nogales). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Duarte Falcons on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Nobles considering their one-run performance the match before.

Eddie Salazar spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He has become a key player for Nogales: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nogales got a massive performance out of Josh Chavez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Chavez a new career-high. David Mora was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Chavez wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Nogales lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Nogales' win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Duarte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.

Nogales will have a chance to go back-to-back against Duarte: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
