Football Recap: Riley Foglesong's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Astoria/VIT over Abingdon/Avon

While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Astoria/VIT was not quite Abingdon/Avon's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 34-27 to the Tornadoes. The Rebels were not able to make up for their loss to the Tornadoes from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Astoria/VIT's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Foglesong, who rushed for 167 yards and one TD while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Foglesong is becoming a predictor of the Rebels' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Colby Martin was in the mix too, providing Astoria/VIT with two touchdowns.

Astoria/VIT's record is now 2-4. As for Abingdon/Avon, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.

Astoria/VIT has already played their next contest, a 54-18 loss against Monmouth United on the 10th. As for Abingdon/Avon, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 31-26 win against Havana on the 10th.
