Basketball Recap: Merritt Island Christian's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of five wins, Merritt Island Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 63-44 bruising from the City of Life Christian Academy Warriors. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Merritt Island Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Summer Snaith, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Snaith has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Julia Rhodes was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Merritt Island Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as City of Life Christian Academy only posted five assists.

Abigail Squires continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for City of Life Christian Academy, dropping a double-double on 37 points and 12 rebounds. City of Life Christian Academy is 2-1 when Squires posts 15 or more points, but 6-7 otherwise. Iliana Del Valle also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Merritt Island Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for City of Life Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Island Christian will square off against Titusville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for City of Life Christian Academy, they will face off against Life Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
