Basketball Recap: Safford Bulldogs vs. Sabino Sabercats

After flying high against the Globe Tigers last Wednesday, the Safford Bulldogs came back down to earth. Safford took a 70-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sabercats on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Safford in their matchups with the Sabercats: they've now lost nine in a row.

Sabino's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Watkins hasn't dropped below 16 points for three straight games. Cameron Hackworth was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.

Safford has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-7 record this season. As for Sabino, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-14.

Safford will take on the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sabino, they will head out on the road to face off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tanque Verde knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully the Sabercats like a good challenge.
