League recap: Baynes breaks off league-leading run for Riverdale Baptist

Riverdale Baptist's Justin Baynes recorded the longest rushing play in Capital Area this season in his game against Maret last week. Baynes scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 161 on the day as his team defeated the Frogs.

Riverdale Baptist was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Maret 20-13. Bob Shields 's team came in at 15 in the state poll after placing at number 136 last week.

The Crusaders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nate Washington threw for 43 and one touchdown and Darcel Hicks had 23 yards receiving.

Riverdale Baptist's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Washington has thrown for 250 yards and two touchdowns this season, while John Hightower has five catches for 102 yards. Baynes leads the league in rushing with 395 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Perry Street Prep and Avalon. The The enters the contest ranked 16th in the state, while the Black Knights ranks 11th.

Perry Street Prep extended the longest winning streak in Capital Area this week by beating Maryland School for the Deaf, 40-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
