Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart Extends Home Winning Streak to 21

Sacred Heart had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took down the Notre Dame Academy Pandas 74-59. The Valkyries have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pandas, too.

Sacred Heart was led to victory by ZaKiyah Johnson and Amirah 'Tootie' Jordan. Johnson dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards, while Jordan went 7-for-12 on her way to 20 points and five steals. The game was Johnson's 26th in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bri Wilkins, who posted ten points.

Sacred Heart smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Sacred Heart pushed their record up to 25-3 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points over those games. As for Notre Dame Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-7.

Coming up, Sacred Heart won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Frederick Douglass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sacred Heart knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 games -- so hopefully Frederick Douglass likes a good challenge.
