Baseball Game Preview: Holgate Tigers vs. Leipsic Vikings

The Holgate Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Leipsic Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Friday. Holgate fell just short of Liberty Center by a score of 1-0. Holgate has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Grady Hoffer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Holgate saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zack Boecker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Boecker is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Leipsic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Swanton on Tuesday.

Leipsic's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Holgate, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
