Preview: Laredo LBJ Wolves vs. Cole Cougars
The Laredo LBJ Wolves are on the road again on Friday and play against the Cole Cougars at 1:30 p.m. on December 29th. Laredo LBJ comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 71-13, which was the final score in Laredo LBJ's tilt against Weslaco last Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Laredo LBJ has scored all season.
Cole has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell just short of San Marcos by a score of 60-58. While losing is never fun, Cole can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while San Marcos is ranked 102nd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kendall Gonzales, who scored 14 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamyra Childs, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Laredo LBJ's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-15. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.5 points per game. As for Cole, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-8 record this season.
Laredo LBJ won a game that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in November of 2022, slipping by Cole 41-40. Will Laredo LBJ repeat their success, or does Cole have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
