Recap: Seguin Cougars vs. Burleson Elks
After losing to The Burleson Elks the last time they met, the Seguin Cougars decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Seguin narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Burleson 29-27. Given Seguin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Burleson is ranked 552nd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sirawn Evans threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Malachi Meche was his top target, picking up 72 receiving yards. On the ground, Chase Ramirez rushed for 105 yards.
Several Elks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caden Ward, who rushed for 30 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 94 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Jackson, who rushed for 145 yards.
Seguin's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.5 points per game. As for Burleson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.
Seguin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Burleson also has no future games currently scheduled.
