Softball Recap: Lyons Beats Longmont for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Lyons extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping them up to 5-0. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Longmont Trojans. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 4-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gretta Wynja spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lyons' win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luci Santesteban, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Autumn Johnsey was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lyons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

As for Longmont, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2-1. The game marked their lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

On Longmont's side, Sophie Magley was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex McGregor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Lyons has already played their next contest, a 7-4 defeat against Wellington on the 26th. As for Longmont, they will challenge Monarch at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Coyotes have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
