Basketball Recap: West Florence Comes Up Short

West Florence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Spring Valley Vikings, falling 72-21. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Vikings are ranked 20th).

West Florence's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Danielle Davis, who posted three points and four steals, and Gabreille Gunter, who put up seven points. Those four steals gave Davis a new career-high.

Spring Valley was led to victory by Lauren Crosland and Zie'L Ratchford. Crosland went 7-for-14 to rack up 20 points and three steals, while Ratchford went 5-for-10 en route to 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The match was Crosland's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Chisholm, who scored six points and six steals.

West Florence's loss dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Spring Valley, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-8.

West Florence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Spring Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-37 victory against Stratford on the 18th.
