Baseball Recap: Westbrook Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Westbrook had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Hermleigh Cardinals. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Jaxson Browne made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over 5.1 innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Westbrook's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Browne was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shawn Salazar, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Westbrook is 5-1 when Salazar posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Caul Hoback, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Westbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Westbrook picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-8. As for Hermleigh, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4.

Westbrook will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
