Basketball Recap: Lake Region Takes a Loss

Lake Region was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 58-31 defeat at the hands of the Trinity Catholic Celtics. While losing is never fun, the Thunder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Celtics are ranked 54th).

Trinity Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja'Niya Corbin, who posted 16 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Corbin is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alessa Washington, who had 12 points and seven steals.

Lake Region's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Trinity Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Lake Region will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on George Jenkins at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Trinity Catholic, they will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Peters Township at 1:30 p.m. Peters Township is coming into the match with four straight victories at home, so Trinity Catholic will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
