Basketball Recap: Madison Triumphs

Avery County came into Thursday's game looking for another win against Madison, but Gavin Gault wouldn't allow it. The Madison Patriots came out on top against the Avery County Vikings by a score of 61-52 on Thursday thanks in part to Gault, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Avery County lost, don't look at Hank Johnson. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 12 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cain Hart, who posted ten points.

Madison's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Avery County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Madison will face off against Mountain Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Avery County, they will take on Owen at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Owen knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Avery County likes a good challenge.
