Preview: Lakewood Cougars vs. Lynden Lions
Lakewood is 1-7 against Lynden since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lakewood Cougars will be playing at home against the Lynden Lions at 7:00 p.m. Lakewood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Lynden is ranked 30th).
While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Lakewood was not quite Sedro-Woolley's equal in the second half on Friday. Lakewood was the victim of a tough 42-21 loss at the hands of Sedro-Woolley.
Despite the defeat, Lakewood had strong showings from Kai Elwell, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Nash Espe, who threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lynden had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They didn't even let Burlington-Edison onto the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Lynden's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Lakewood's defeat dropped theirs to 2-4.
Lakewood was dealt a bruising 48-3 defeat at the hands of Lynden when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Lakewood have more luck at home instead of on the road?
