Baseball Game Preview: Luray Bulldogs vs. Madison County Mountaineers

The Luray Bulldogs will square off against the Madison County Mountaineers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Luray is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Stonewall Jackson on Thursday as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The Bulldogs have beaten the Generals the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Generals has come to flipping the script.

Landon Wood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Cubbage was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trey Guzy, who got on base in 11 of his 13 plate appearances with one RBI.

Luray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Madison County got themselves on the board against Central Woodstock on Friday, but Central Woodstock never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountaineers.

Madison County pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Luray, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
