The Woodlake Tigers will head out to challenge the Corcoran Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodlake will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 22-13 victory. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.
David Flores was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Woodlake let Elias Lang and Thomas Leedy run wild. Lang went 3-for-6 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs, while Leedy went 4-for-6 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Lang a new career-high. Guillermo Rosales was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Woodlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
Meanwhile, Corcoran had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Spartans get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory.
Corcoran got a massive performance out of Cortez Portillo, who went 2-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan Botill, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Corcoran's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Woodlake, their record now sits at 11-6.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodlake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Corcoran struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodlake skirted past Corcoran 7-5 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
