Football Recap: Lake Travis' Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Lake Travis and Westlake squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Lake Travis had to settle for second. They took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westlake Chaparrals. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' national football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Chaparrals are ranked 11th).

Although Lake Travis took the loss, they still got scores from Vann Hopping and Patrick Colby.

Even if they lost, Lake Travis' defense still kept up the pressure with 7.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Gus ?Bus? Cordova and Carter Buck, who racked up 5.5 sacks between them. ?Bus? Cordova also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12.

Westlake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rees Wise, who threw for 180 yards and one touchdown on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 47 yards.

Lake Travis moved to 12-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Westlake, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Lake Travis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westlake, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 35-10 win against North Shore on the 14th.
