Baseball Recap: Milburn Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Rage Smith and Joseph Thompson

Milburn extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-9. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-7 to the Soper Bears, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 on Tuesday.

Joseph Thompson and Rage Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Thompson got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Smith got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Smith has become a key player for Milburn: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Daylon Davis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Soper, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.

On Soper's side, Dallin Gilbert was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Gilbert a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Teagan Stacy, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Soper wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-5 loss against Tournament Opponent on the 4th. Hopefully Milburn paid attention to the Bears' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
