Recap: Mayfield Wildcats vs. North Rangers
The Mayfield Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past North 84-81. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mayfield's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 678th, while North is ranked 270th).
Xavier Vickerstaff had a dynamite game for Mayfield, scoring 27 points. Mason Lathan was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Despite the loss, North still got an impressive performance from Sean Register Jr, who dropped a double-double on 51 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 63% of North's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nate Tadiello, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Mayfield's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12. As for North, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayfield will take on Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for North, they will be playing at home against Kenston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kenston is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
