Basketball Game Preview: Hanalani Royals vs. Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors

Hanalani has won five straight games at home, while Kamehameha Kapalama has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Hanalani Royals will welcome the Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hanalani is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Monday with ease, bagging a 72-11 victory over University Laboratory School. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-6.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hanalani to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ellana Klemp, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five steals. With that strong performance, Klemp is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Piha Akiona, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Hanalani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Kamehameha Kapalama faced Punahou in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Kamehameha Kapalama breezed by Punahou to the tune of 61-34. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Warriors had established a 26 point advantage.

Hanalani's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Kamehameha Kapalama, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
