Baseball Game Preview: Pontotoc Warriors vs. Hernando Tigers

The Pontotoc Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Hernando Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Pontotoc is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

If Pontotoc beats Hernando with seven runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past Amory 7-6. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Braxton Whiteside was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Hernando came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 9-4.

Cade Kozcka looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Romine, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Phillips, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Pontotoc's record now sits at 17-8. As for Hernando, their record is now 18-8-1.
