Baseball Recap: Brandon Triumphs

Brandon saw some tournament action on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix 3-2. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Francis Ovalles was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Brandon is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-7 otherwise. Ovalles was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-6. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charles Revi Rodriguez, who got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one double. That double was his first of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Brandon and bumps their season record up to 5-8. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 10.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.73 in the others. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brandon will take on Seffner Christian in a tournament on Monday. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, they will be taking part in a tournament against Spoto at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
