Basketball Game Preview: Laurel Golden Tornadoes vs. Oak Grove Warriors

The Laurel Golden Tornadoes and the Oak Grove Warriors will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Laurel will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.

Laurel's tournament run continued when they took on Jefferson Davis County on Thursday. Laurel put the hurt on Jefferson Davis County with a sharp 70-46 win. The Golden Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Kayllis Walker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Takaylen Dean, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 15 points.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Oak Grove can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 41-40 victory over Richton.

Oak Grove's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Laurel, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.

Laurel took their win against Oak Grove in their previous matchup back in November by a conclusive 59-35. Does Laurel have another victory up their sleeve, or will Oak Grove turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
