The Cornerstone Christian Patriots will face off against the Richmond Heights Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cornerstone Christian has three straight victories, Richmond Heights has 29 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Thursday, Cornerstone Christian made easy work of Westside Christian Academy and carried off a 3-0 win.
While Cornerstone Christian won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-8, 25-15.
Ashley Hansen was nothing short of spectacular: she had 14 digs and three aces.
Hansen wasn't the only good servers: Cornerstone Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 21 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Richmond Heights came up short against Trinity on Thursday, falling 3-0.
While Richmond Heights was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Trinity's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.
Richmond Heights' loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Cornerstone Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Everything went Cornerstone Christian's way against Richmond Heights when the teams last played back in August of 2024, as Cornerstone Christian made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
